I have seen several fan controllers that people made. Many of them are pretty cheap to build and appear somewhat simple. But there are so many variants it is tough to figure out which one I should go with. To further complicate matters I am not well verses in electrical systems. So, I decided to just buy a fan controller off the shelf at the parts store. My attempted install was a miserable failure. I figured I better go back and see what you all have come up with and request some guidance in putting one together that will work and not cost a ton of money.

I used a temperature switch from a foxbody with the 2.3 in it. Was around $25 new. The switch grounds out at 210°F and opens at 185°F. It's wild how quiet the truck is without the fan going.

If you want to have it kick on when the AC is on tap into the AC clutch line, go to a diode, then to the fan relay. This way the AC clutch only turns on when it should, and the fan will turn on when either the engine hits it's temp or the AC is on

If you want a quick diagram I can whip one up in paint later.

more details are needed...

what fan are you trying to run? single speed/fan? dual speed/fan?
Is it for your primary cooling fan or is it in addition to your stock fan?

Two speed and it is replacing the mech fan altogether. After doing some more reading, I think I need to give my store bought controler another chance.

Thanks, that does make it easier to understand.

You know, I got a Taurus fan and it did not fit well at all. It just was nto going to work. I am guessing I got the wrong one. I found out a PT Criuser fan is damn near a perfect fit. So, I used that.
