Hello I have a 98 4.0 an automatic that converted to manual. It has the same PCM or computer.

I get the typical error codes since it is looking for the transmission.

it had been running ok with some hesitation and running rich
with error code to the canister vent solenoid. Tested the switch to charcoal canister makes a click and has power, but can that thing affect performance to such a degree?

Now it runs terrible can the computer go to a limp mode since it does not sense the automatic transmission?
No vacuum leaks, I have checked or replaced every sensor on the beast

please help I must be over looking some thing

If I was not clear. Weeks ago has some hesitation Now it smells so bad of rich exhaust, sputters nearly backfired on acceleration
I won’t drive it

With the engine running, does the engine suck on the line to the canister? If it's sucking air and fumes all the time, I would think it could certainly throw things off. If the valve is open all the time, even though it's clicking, plug the line off to stop the leak and see if it makes a difference.

No suck at canister But at the purge solenoid first line has great vacuum.
