I remember that feeling, I bet it feels good to know it is alive. Congrats!

That "adapter" on the brake master cylinder is a proportion valve for the rear brakes. I had to eliminate mine and go with an adjustable one.

I am no expert. Someone advised me to change the Ranger brake master cylinder for a Explorer master cylinder. They are identical except for that piece. The Explorer master cylinder does not have it and is threaded different when it is excluded (threaded like the Ranger brake line). Because the Explorer uses rear disc brakes it uses a different proportion valve setup. I wanted some adjustability setting up my front and rear disc brakes. Wilwood has an adjustable one for about $32.00. I did the same thing, cut some custom lines and patched it in. If you go with the same Wilwood piece be careful when ordering. They have two that are identical except for the thread pitch. I think they are metric versus standard.

If you look at my thread you will see where I started with the Ranger master cylinder that had that piece and at some point changed it out further along.
