I am in the process of re-assembling an '85 RCLB. It has the 2.8 & A4LD. I decided to switch from power steering to a manual steering box.
So, if anyone would like what I have (steering gear box and pump mounting plate & pump adjuster), I'll send it for the cost of shipping. I do know that the steering box will fit in a USPS Flat Rate Large box ($22 shipped). The pump support plate may be a different story. The adjuster should fit in a medium (or even small) Flat Rate box ($16).
The PS system leaked badly and since the truck wasn't in running condition when I got it, I do not know what was actually leaking (the pump, the lines, the box or all of it). The underside of the hood had a greasy stripe across it, from side-to-side. That leads me to believe the pump was shot and leaked fluid onto the belt which sprayed it on the hood. PS fluid also had coated the steering box.
Anyways, at the very least, the steering box can be used as a core. The steering box is used on a bunch of Ford trucks (Bronco, Bronco II, F Series as well as the Ranger). The mounting plate and adjusting mechanism may be unique to the 2.8 engine (1983-85), I'm not sure.
If you're interested, let me know. I'll do my best to answer all questions. Thanks,
