went to get dyno-tunes today. they said cant communicate with ecu, he can read codes but not put anything on ecu.
i had one of our members help me out with start up tune: pats delete, auto trans delete, and setup for pro-m mass, on a 99 ecu. it runs ok. tried it and stock 98 ecu, both have same result at dynotuners

What are they using?

look careful at your obd port and verify wiring for interface is correct.

If it's good...you need to find someone that can work with those processers you have...

One idea he had was pin location being different for ecu wiring. Told me there was two critical wires for that said they r usually twisted together in harness, one acts like a push wire, other pull. To get info to and from ecu. I extended 42 pin under hood and do remember 2 wires being twisted together. Electrical and tuning suck, when u don't know what you are really doing.

Those are the canbus wires. And it can be an issue. But .. tuners are not taking the time to go rabbit hole exploring .

That's what idiots like me are for.


Since it's sct, most likely a physical issue in the wiring. .

May just be loose pin the 104 pin

@Junglejoe knows a guy, im not saying anything about quality of his tune, I have issues right now, I have yet to determine if they r tune or mechanical related. I'd give him a thumbs up tho, he helped me alot so far.

Your PCM uses SCP communication. It's routed from pins 10 and 2 of the DLC to pins 15 and 16 of the PCM. I doubt there is an issue with these circuits if you can pull fault codes and data from the PCM.

You'll also have ISO9141 on pin 7 of the DLC. This is a scan tool only protocol to most of the other modules in the vehicle. It is not bidirectional, no programming happens over ISO.

I suspect you may have a problem with the FEPS circuit. The programmer must supply voltage to this circuit to enable programming (pin 13 at the DLC, pin 13 at the PCM).

truck 99 ranger 4cyl 5spd reg cab short bed, crank windows, manual locks. swap was 98 expo awd eddie bauer, currently running a 99 ecu n cam sensor. been doing a little more digging, i bought some reman fleabay injectors, they r crap, the also seems to be a slight motor tick coming from driver valvetrain. i must suspend progress on the ranger, will park in garage to prevent damage to engine. got some work going on the house so i can realize a 15 year goal of having a proper shop on my property. i have yet to go further down the rabbit hole of tuning problem at local dyno. joes guys is good in my book, would recomend just to clarify.

New problems, cyl. #5 misfire. Replaced plug, wire, and pulled valve cover to ensure valves were moving and rockers tight. Have new msd coils when installed motor about 600 miles on it. Should I try injector or coil packs?

Compression test and leak down.

Swap injector and plug and wire with others one step at a time if ct and ld is good
