So ive been offered what appears to be a great deal.
99 ext cab 3.0 auto ranger power everything for 1000$
Down side compressors busted and the motor was removed and some major work done and the oil pump was installed wrong so it can be started...
New steering pump, rear main seal, gasket? Dont know which ones yet. And trans pan seal.

Opinions?

Grab truck for $1000, put a Reman engine in it, say you are in it for $4000, $5000 tops, once all is said and done.

You can't buy a truck that nice for 5K around here, not even one that old.

Go for it and drop a 302 in. That is just me though. I am biased.

Ill be keeping this guy stock if i bought him, it would be a dd, only mods i would do would be visual and to improve mpg. I was just worried about the fact that some major engine work was done yet the oil pump was installed wrong. I already have a 98 that having a heart swap to a 302 so im set in that department. Thanks for yall opinions so far. Ill be taking a look at it monday morning and will post more info/pics

That's a really good deal, it gives you some wiggle room to fix or upgrade it.

Well the father sunk some money in it intending to fix it up with his son who just enlisted, and isn't helping fix it up. He told me he will take a loss just to get rid of it. I just have trouble breaking the grand threshold on stuff i buy. I would buy it regardless for 900$ tho...

Another hyp, question? I intend to make this is to a street dd. what would yall do to it?
Bed cover, lower it a little, some nice rims, 08 mirror swap, 04 clip swap. Bumpin stereo, i may plan a 302 swap in the far future... Dammit now i want it...

Maybe im weird but i dont think I would give a grand for it. I would buy it assuming it needs a motor. My thoughts are Its pretty tough to screw up putting on an oil pump so if they botched that what else did they screw up? Plus its got 180000 on it. Around here that truck in excelent shape would sell for 3000-3500. So iys not feasable to put a reman in since the motor would likely cost what the truck is worth. I guess if it were me id offer them 500, if they did take id get a used motor to dump in for 7-8 hundred and call it a day.....but thats just me.
Good luck no matter what you choose

I'm sure you will check the floor pans and the frame and go from there...a good rolling frame with a motor I just acquired for $600...needs a cab...probably another $600...in your case if the frame, cab, and box are in good shape and just needs a motor then I think $600 to $700 is a bit high but depends on the inspection...shackle mounts would be my concern too...not that they cost much but it gives you an idea about the rest of the rust.

Personally, if I found one in that condition I would swap in the motor and be done with it...probably make a really good dd...

Make some small changes to make it look nice, but don't over do it and go full ricer.

Dont think rust would be to big a problem unless it was a coastal truck

Hell no, a 1-2" drop some clean rims and appearance upgrades is all im going to do. I would jack it up but im already doing that to my 98.
