My credo
19K, 19D, 92Y, 88M, 91F....OIF-III (2004-2005)
I can't afford health insurance with my income. By the time I pay the few necessities I have nothing left. At a $800 a month max income I don't get to do much except send my paycheck to bills.

I am US but have lived in Canada for quite a few years.
The cost for health insurance here is $120/month for wife and I, $135/month covers family with kids under 18, or as long as they are in school.
$67/month for single adults.
I have never had a major issue, knock on wood, and have heard all the stories of "goofs" in the system here, but what system run by people doesn't have "goofs".
Plus we have a 5% Federal Sales Tax, so 5% of your after income tax(which is higher here) money goes to fund this, as well as other things.
So that means you are paying approx. another $150/month per person

When I was in the US I was single and got high deductible medical insurance, it was through my State Farm agent, it was the highest deductible offered at the time, $1,500 in a 12 month period, if I remember correctly, it was $55/month, we are talking years ago.
It was basically catastrophic coverage, so I wouldn't lose house or other assets if I had an extensive medical issue.

Covered. Company pays all my premiums because I dont smoke, not overweight and my cholesterol is good. Company sets a $5K deductable but covers $4500. So for basic medical I am responsible for $500/year plus co-pays.

A recent study of medical billing and pay out showed that hospitals actually collect more from uninsured patients because they can jack up the final bill vs an insurance company and get away with it, and most uninsured people try to pay and do pay at least 50% out of pocket.

what a bunch of stupid b@5turd5. those administrators in the company(and the insurers) know the importance of insurance and let this happen. probably got a verbal scolding for what happened, if any consequence at all.

doorgunner: perhaps someone can grab your son an application for medicaid. our state dept. of human services administers the program here. i don't know about your state.

a daily prayer is for him, friend.

on a lighter note, in the hospital i was watching one of the nurses walking down the hallway with a bottle and i.v lines at about shoulder height. the bottle slid out of her hand and shattered leaving a sunburst decoration on the floor. whew, her little mouth spewed out a bunch of words that were quite shocking. i told her, "easy, tiger, just call the pharmacy for another dose of chicken soup in a bottle." her reply was that was a $5000.00 bottle of chemo. well... i guess you had to be there

Ya I read something about that. But like I said the deductible is 250$ I go to the hospital once a year. (Always have a minor infection or some bs) the bill comes out to about 250. With the insurance id be paying for 11 months I didn't use it. Then the deductible. Now if I were to get a four wheelwright id probably get it insurance from work.

Retired, full coverage, $275/month.

Use the VA and they go after the insurance company to get the money…

AND then there is the co-pay for medication, everyone will have to have a separate plan for meds too… the new health plan era !

I pay $200 a month, $450 yearly deductible, $20 a visit to doctors office. Single so that helps my costs.

I do have VA coverage as well but won't use it unless I have a hospital emergency since they are a hassle and honestly don't seem to care about you when you visit. If I got paid what they did I probably wouldn't care about patients either though.

Fully covered...medical, dental and vision. $500 deductible. Costs me $205 a month for me and my 2 sons. $10 copayment for office visit. It is very good insurance and I know I am fortunate to have it.
