Hey everyone, I am hoping someone can assist me. I have a 2007 Ford Ranger 2wd, 3.0L truck that I am having the hardest time with. I have no engine codes that are related to this problem, so I need some advice. My engine all of a sudden started shaking violently and when I put the truck in drive it starts making a high pitched squeaky noise. Any ideas? We did the spray water on the belt and see if that helps, but the squeel still is heard... could it be a pulley of some sort? As far as the engine violently shaking, it doesn't seem to be like loose, just shaking like really bad. Rattling as well. We thought it could be the spark plugs or fuel injectors but there are no engine codes that popped up at all on my scanner, so that idea was squashed.. our next thought was it could be the motor mounts, which we didn't want to buy them till we knew for sure. what do you guys think?

The camshaft synchronizer is known to squeal. Do a search here for information.

Also... I moved your post to the 3.0L forum.

If it's not broken Don't Fix It!
The cam synchronizer gives a metal on metal screech that usually has a high pitch to it. Often sounds like belt squeal. If this piece is bad do not hesitate in changing it as when it fully goes it takes out the cam shaft with it.

No problem...

But about the shaking... does the engine run OK... or does it miss? An engine with a bad miss will certainly shake.

Describe the rattle... soft or loud... upper engine or lower?

And yes... if the cam sync gets sticky... I think it wipes out the distributer drive gear. Which in turn stops the oil pump. Then you lose oil pressure and wipe out the engine.
