1983 Ranger still with feedback carburetor.....

After it warms up....it jerks and bucks while under a load. Truck idles fine, but struggles once hot.

I’ve swapped out TFI module, which was relocated to fender years ago.

Fuel filter was replaced as well....

The accelerator pump looked fine, but was replaced anyways.

I’m thinking the PIP signal inside the distributor.

Other ideas.....

Do you need to pass emissions? You can try resetting the computer to the preset values and see if it helps but you may need to do the duraspark conversion to bring it to life. Have you messed with the idle air needles on the carb? It is impossible to adjust the idle air needles with the idle control motor plugged in. With the engine off turn the needles all the way in to lightly seated then turn them both out 3 1/2 half turns and see if it helps. The big problem with the computer is if one component is faulty the computer goes into limp mode and it must be reset. The tech library under eec-IV tells you how to reset the computer with jumper wire and a test light or analog meter to pull the codes. A code reader makes it easier. I spent two years trying to get my computer working but parts are hard to find even then it does not mean the computer is not faulty. Get to know the vacuum diagram under the hood and make sure everything is in order before you reset the computer. You may get lucky under the back of the air horn on the carb is the vent for the egr solenoid it allows the egr to close make sure that vacuum hose is clear it pulls filtered air from the top of the carb.

I had the same issue with my 84 2.8 and I just ripped out all of the old junk and durasparked it with the GM HEI. Now she runs perfectly. Well as perfect she shes ever gonna run until I rebuild her.

If you are going to mess with the computer stuff, you are going to have to learn how to pull the codes and figure out what's going on with it. All you need is a testlight to pull the codes.
