Pilot bearin help M50D

I have a 95 2wd with the 2.3 and 5 speed. I am putting in a new clutch and all components. I have a issue with the new pilot bearing. Please look at the picture. What am I missing here? Has the old bearing wore down to nothing? All I can see is a metal "sleeve" I do not see any bearings.There is supposed to be a bearing in there, right? I have also enclosed a pic of the bearing that came with the kit

Before bearings there were bushings. Perhaps that is what is in there. Regardless, find a dowel or rod that barely fits in there. Pack it full of grease then lightly hammer the dowel or rod in. Whatever is there will come out easily.

Yeah, the bearing in the second pic is what came in the kit, so I was assumimg that is what is supposed to go in there?.Dont know for sure if this is the original trans or engine though. Maybe someone with this generation may chime in

I think Floored is right, that looks like a pilot bushing, which does roughly the same job somewhat less efficiently.

The bearing and the bushing should have the same dimensions. Remove the old and install the new.
Maybe check the ID on the trans first?

If you don't have any luck with the "hydraulic" ramming to get the bearing/bushing out, then one of these may work for you and they're very handy to have around. IF it's small enough to go in to the bearing shell.

You may be able to rent a tool at your local parts store also.. Me, I like to have an excuse to buy tools. ;)

I've had pilot bearings seized in place more than once. A Dremel tool with a "milling" bit can cut them out with some patience.

Just a note on the "hydraulic" method for removing those bearings, bread works just as well as grease.

Another question, what is the split pin and O-rings used for in these clutch kits?They were in a little pack with the new pilot bearing.

The hydraulic method should work just as well on a bushing. The idea is to create pressure behind the bushing/bearing that when applied leaves moving the bearing outward the only place to the pressure to go.

The pin and O-rings are for the slave cylinder.
