Got this 95 today. 4.0 5-speed 2wd supercab. Has a lot of cool features. Not sure if seats are original. Has buckets with power lumbar and center console. Power windows and locks with factory 6-disc cd changer. Really seems loaded for a 95 xlt ranger. Really excited about it. Super clean one owner truck. Feels like a time capsule.
Has 168k miles. 3.08 gears, thought t would be peppier. May tune it up and see.

Nice looking truck. Maybe the previous owner swapped in a set of explorer seats. Welcome to The Ranger Station

Nice! Yeah. Those look like Explorer seats. Definitely an Explorer center console, if I'm not mistaken.

My credo
Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
3.08s aren't peppy in anything that has less than like 500 horse lol

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Those seats look identical to the OEM seats in my ‘93. Other options sound about right for an XLT. Nice find.
You would probably enjoy 3.73 gears in that truck.

I would love a set of 3.73's or even 3.55's. I'll be tuning it up and tinkering around trying to pep it up some. Also, the back side windows pop out. I've never seen that on a ranger before. Pretty cool though. I'm very happy with it after selling my 2.3

Ford put the console in Rangers too.

my 97 has the pop out rear quarter windows. it is a bit more rare than the solid version, but I do see it around. 3:73's are pretty common, you can probably snarf one from the pull a part for under 150 bucks, and since you have 2wd, no front gears to worry about.

3.08 gear in a 4.0 OHV V6 is interesting; my 1996 Ranger with a 2.3 SOHC I4 has 4.10 gearing with the M5OD, albeit it is also a 4x4 with a manual-transfer case and manual-locking hubs.

My 94 has that exact console... pretty sure it's a Ranger console. But then again... I could be mistaken.

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
All of those option could be ordered in a Ranger. Those are the same options that my ‘90 supercab had... my uncle factory ordered it , I was the second owner. 4.0l auto, 3.08s. Power: windows, locks, lumbar, bolster. Manual adjust seat, pop out S/C windows. Same console... Without the changer. That wasn’t an option until ‘95 IIRC... that came with the new radio/dash change.
Yes the console is the same one that was available in the Explorer, but it was first available in the Ranger and BII... making it the Ranger console in the Explorer, not the other way around.

I'm starting to think they are the original seats and console. I was told the original owner spec ed the truck out. Specifically had to request the 4.0 in a 2wd. I think he had a hard time finding it on a lot but I really don't know.

As far as the gearing, I'm torn. I like the highway cruisibility?? but would love so more pickup off the line. What rear ends are a direct swap? I've been researching trying to find a 3.55, 3.73 with limited slip. Will 4x4 rear end direct swap? What about explorers?

Those seats and console were definitely available in BOTH Rangers and Explorers. Uncommon in Rangers, very common in Explorers, but available in both nonetheless.
