2004 to 2006 Ranger 3.0l/B3000 could have bad valve seats so avoid those years, and maybe 2003 in your case, lol
1999 is when the heads were changes to the smaller valve stems, same size valves just smaller stems
so 1999-2002, 2007/8 would be the heads to look for
3.0l info here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/3_0-build.shtml
There were Flex Fuel heads as well which are fine to use on any 3.0l but must be matched in pairs, i.e. don't use one gas only head with a flex fuel head
Use pair of gas only or pair of flex fuel
Used is used, so grain of salt
You should have used head, cleaned, surfaced and pressure tested at a machine shop before installing
So call around and see what that costs locally vs cost of new head
You don't have to change both heads at the same time you can just do the one, as long as it matches other head
Need new head bolts, that's not optional, also new head gasket
Other gaskets are a judgement call on your part, be careful when removing current gaskets as they can often be reused
Lower intake gasket can be a pain to reuse so check the price, and exhaust manifold gasket
