picked up a 120k mile 4.0 ohv from a 1st gen explorer, i got the engine, the harness, and the ecu. the explorer was a 5 speed. the truck im putting it into is a 1994 with a 4.0 and 5 speed. i noticed that the explorer exhaust just has 1 obd 2 sensor at the y, the pickup has 1 on each down pipe. the explorer also has no egr stuff, and the pickup has egr.

so should i just swap all the explorer harness and ecu? or convert the explorer 4.0 to what the truck has? i would not retain the egr, i always deleted it before anyways.

the harness and what not is still on the explorer engine. so i assume it would be easier to just swap the ecu into the pickup, and run the explorer engine as it came from factory.

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
My recommendation would be to use everything from the donor.

By the way. The sensor on the exhaust is an oxygen sensor. Not an obd2 sensor. Obd1 and obd2 are types of onboard diagnostic communications with the ECU.

lmao, i didnt even realize i said obd 1 / obd 2, i totally meant oxygen sensors.

my thought to were that if it worked in the donor, it should work in this pickup, and its simple enough to swap. i wasnt sure if i might run into issues, but im pretty sure that wasnt a thing until pats came into play.

Deengineer until it is how Blue Oval should have sold it!!

The advice everyone has given me is to use the harness and PCM for the engine that is to be use, if possible.

that was a total wash any ways. ive seen and heard this engine run before. i was there when it got parked, which is why i wanted it. in cylinder number 1 there is a line so deep, you can put a cloth towel over you finger and still feel it.

as well i noticed that the 94 pickup has 3 large plugs near the ecu/brake booster, where as the 91 explorer only has 2. any one know if we have a pin out on the site for these? i thought ive seen some
