Ok so here is my problem. I have a 99 Ranger 4x4 right now. its a very nice truck BUT. I just put a tranny in it (1,900) and 4x4 computer (800) and now a head gasket dumping coolant into cylinder #3. I was quoted 700 to get the gasket replaced. The truck is just pennying me to death. The good. I found an 09 FX4 Ranger fully loaded. the sticker was 27k the guy I talked to is dropping it to 21K right off the top. Plus trade in on my 99. So my delimma is should I fix the old (again) or buy the new. I have a new job and payments will be about 350 a month. So that is very do-able

i had a 99 and when i had it, i loved it. i now have a 2002 and i wouldnt ever consider trading it for the 99 even if my 2002 was bone stock.

i say go for the 2009!

A lot of guys on here like the older trucks, but screw it- get the new one! Open that door and catch that new truck smell... No rattles, everything works perfect, warranty.:yahoo::yahoo: I'd do it in a heartbeat. Just make sure you get a new TRS sticker for that window.

Based on your signature I'm guessing you are also in the AF, maybe stationed at Andrews? If you are regularly paying more to keep your 99' running than the payments on the 09' would be then I'd say it would be worth it to get the newer truck. You'll have a warranty and the FX4s are pretty nice trucks.

I did have plans for it once I got the cash. D'60s Detroit lockers, 5:13's, 351W swap, and C6. Before I start anything to that extent I need the funds for it. That dream is slipping though and its something I really do not need. So i;m just gonna trade it in and get what I can to go towards the 09

I have told him about the gasket being screwed and he said thats no big deal. I know the salesman really well (known him for a very very long time) he told me he will look up Blue Book and give me a little less. BB is 4,300. So im at least looking to get 3 - 3,500

'09 all the way!!! Like everyone else said, it's probably your best bet. The only thing is the the new trucks sit a little lower in front, but you know what to do about that! Go for it!

And there's nothing like the smell of plasticizers....
