Hello All -

I've got a 1992 Standard Cab, Custom with 4.0L and 5 speed manual tranny. 360k miles.

Hunting down a small oil leak from the oil pan.

I've isolated the oil leak to the sensor in the pan. Went to buy it and EVERY site says the part is not compatible with the 4.0L.

Researched for 2 days and can't find any indication online that the 4.0 has this sensor yet my factory manual clearly shows it does - well and of course it's in my oil pan.

These things are over $100 to replace so I'd like to make sure I have the right part. Can anyone confirm that what I'm looking to get is correct?

I'm attaching a pic from the factory manual and one from the website I'm looking to get it from. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

I can tell you the 4.0 has one, I can't tell you if that is the right one.

They're like $10 at the parts store.

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I just looked it up for my engine on Rock Auto. I can get one for $80 or $181. They list a wiring connector pigtail thing for just a few dollars, though. Must be some special doohickey.

Advance Auto has it for $82. Not in stock at my closest store.

last time I had an issue with one of these it got fixed with a welder, remove it, peel the gasket off carefully, punch the center out, clean it, fill with weld, grind it smooth, clean again and reinstall. not really a necessary part if you know how to operate a dipstick.

yea that is not the oil pressure sender. It may very well be listed as the oil temperature sensor too.

In any case its not required and if need be you can plug it for the time being to get you going again.

It's the low oil level switch. Every 4.0 I've had has leaked there, very irritating. O'Reilly sells a plug that will replace it and fix the problem permanently for $6 if you don't want to spend the cash on the correct part.
