Getting time to change the oil for the second time on the Ranger I bought last year. It is a 2004 with a 3.0 liter engine. I changed the oil initially when I bought it before last winter just because and found out all about the starter solenoid I believe, being too close to the oil filter and I have been changing my own oil since 1971.... and thought I knew everything..... LOL..... I got a real surprise when my filter wrench shorted out the contacts on the solenoid. And yes, I know, you are only supposed to hand tighten these but sometimes you do need to use a cup oil filter wrench to break them loose. Any suggestions? My plan is to go to Walmart, find a 3600 Fram filter and then take it over to the oil filter wrench choices and try to find a cup filter that is plastic/composite.... so if I do make contact, I won't get sparks! Any other suggestions? thanks!!!
