Just took my 88 ranger xlt 2.3L 5 speed to a quick lube place for and oil change, I tried to do it myself but was having a hard time getting the filter off and said screw it. I noticed the oil filter they put on is smaller than the one they took off, is that ok? Obviously it fits but is it going to make a big difference in oil pressure or anything and potentially cause problems?

It will be fine

Oil pressure is the oil the engine can not use at any given time, its back pressure
The oil pump pumps more oil than can flow thru the bearings and valve train, as it should

Oil pump-----filter-------oil pressure switch/sender-------bearings/valve train

The oil pressure at the switch/sender is based on the back pressure at the time, as long as the filter is full it could be 1/2 quart or 3 quart size, wouldn't matter at all, as long as it's not clogged up

Now a smaller filter could clog up faster if oil was very dirty, like a smaller air filter in dusty conditions
But as long as you are changing the oil and filter in reasonable time frame then not an issue

I'm not too worried about the smaller filter they put on.
more worried about paying $70 for the oil change. And that is for conventional oil. BTW Canada price.

I don’t pay that for full synthetic oil and a premium filter for an oil change. Boy have those oil change place prices went up! $70 used to be the going rate for full synthetic.

My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
I lost main bearings on a 460 after midas put on a smaller filter...

Not saying thats what did it...but it only had 80,000 miles on it....
