I snagged the oil filter adapter off of a '99 Explorer 5.0. RF-XL2E-6884-AA

It looks like it has been oozing so I thought I would just throw new gaskets in it before I put it in. Turns out no parts stores can get anything. I did some research and I THINK XL2Z6840AA might work for the bigger one

But I have turned up nothing to seal the bolt side and I am leary when they say something that fits a 5.0 also fits a Duratech 3.0.

Anyone else cross this bridge before?

The only thing I can suggest is a trick I’ve seen done on tractors. Use RTV gasket maker and lightly bolt the piece on. Let the RTV cure, remove the adaptor and cut any flash off that is in the passages before fully installing to whatever the proper torque is.

I’m not sure how well this would work for the through bolt but it should work pretty well for the bigger gasket.

I think there's a thread at EF where an alternate seal for these was discussed. I'll try to poke around later for it.

There is a good chance that this will require removal of the steering box to access... so I am really shooting for a one and done.

What kind of seals are in there? I am assuming that there are three, a giant O ring and two smaller ones on the through bolt?

The 4.0 OHV has a similar setup. The big one and little inner one are easy to find, the outer one is a pain in the dick. Part numbers:

Big o-ring on the adapter: MAHLE 72230 (or VICTOR REINZ 711522700, Ford #1S7Z8507AE, PB50423) O-Ring Type w/ 63.09mm I.D, fits a lot of vehicles
Small o-ring on the bolt: MAHLE 72115 (or FEL-PRO 72884, Ford #F0TZ6L621A, ZZL014702) ID 17mm
Bigger o-ring on the bolt: Ford E9TZ-6749-A (this one is green, 26.5mm ID)

Based on the fact that both of the first two part numbers appear to be good for V8 Explorers/Mountaineers, I assume the third one does too. Now I'm not sure, those part numbers are not listed on RockAuto if I search under V8 Explorer or Mountaineer...just V6 trucks...RockAuto doesn't even have a section for those parts on V8 trucks (Oil Filter Adapter Gasket, Oil Filter Adapter O-Ring.)

The third green one is very hard to find. I bought a bag of them, if it is indeed the right part let me know and I'll drop one in the mail for ya.

One other one I found was MAHLE GS33894, it appears to have three different sizes of O rings included.

They are not "just" o-rings, they are bumpy weird alien looking things

I know this is a few months old but did you ever find the correct o’rings? I’m going through the same issue. Nothing I found seems to fit in place of the ribbed seals.
thanks

Did you have any luck turning up the smaller one?

I had a couple places showing then online now everybody is wiped out.

Yeah, the small one is obsolete and deader than a doornail. For the first time in 22 years of Ranger ownership I called the dealer to see if they could do a dealer locate on a part... none in captivity anywhere.
