For the 4.0, if I don't put it on tight enough to require a wrench to remove it, it will work loose and leak. On the 2.3, time will tell if I need to do the same thing but right now, it's 3/4ish of a turn after the seal makes contact.

Never used a wrench for my 4.0 (2004 FX4), but now I am doing the 2.3 Eco--Oil change was piece of cake, but I was kind of wishin, I could use HenryMac's barn, & lift!!:icon_idea:

I doubt many new car buyers change their own oil though.
Seriously??? I need to know. Who will take their new Rangers in? I have never and will never take a car in for an oil change. Unless you want garbage oil, garbage filter, bad attitudes, stripped threads and half the fasteners missing from the covers. I don't want to include the dealers, I would hope it's better there.
I'm amazed at how many covers I see flopping around under the cars on my long drive to work.
I'm 54 with a new Ranger and have arthritis and I don't care if I'm sore for 2 days, it will forever be part of my life.
Besides if you wait, Orielly has Mobil 1 on sale for $29 for 5 quart jug and you get a $10 rebate.

Well If you bought your vehicle there the local dealer has a lifetime engine warranty if you get your oil changed there and every other change is free. MC oil and filter, a lot of people do it.

They have a little inspection thing they do too but they are fair about, my little brother is the shop foreman.

Some people think their time is too valuable to do such mundane work... meanwhile I rebuilt my distributor for fun last summer and get Motorcraft oil/filters at wally world.

If I had a little brother at the dealer, I would also do what you do, no doubt.
Not mundane work to me at all, I look at it as an investment.

The only time mine goes to the dealer is for alignments lol. I DIY everything else.

I can kinda see the allure but since I have never bought anything there I don’t get the warranty thing.

I only pay someone else to do maintenance on my vehicles if I don't have the equipment and it is too expensive for a DIY type person to buy or I'm physically incapable of doing it. That rarely ever happens. Now, recalls and warranty work, that is a different story. Why pay for parts and spend my time doing it if I can get it done for free?

I’m going to let the dealer do the first one so that I can have them check the TSBs about shifting. The rest I’ll probably do myself so that I can teach my kids.

Mine will be going to the dealership in about two weeks for the light connector recall. I'll ask them if there is any TSBs that need attention while it's there. The oil change will wait until spring and will still be earlier than what Ford wants.

Did you receive a Recall notice, from Ford??

I haven't received one, as of yet.

i did. I’m not sure what criteria they are using to send out the notices. First buy, first try?

If it's anything like the airbag recalls... they draw one person's name out of a hat once a week

Maybe, that's a good thing, since parts appear few and far between:rolleyes:

It could be. The dealer has stated that they have yet to find a bad connector as of yet. So, I'm hoping that will be my case and I just waste a little bit of time waiting for them to confirm that there is nothing wrong and record it into the system as good.
