Yes, that could be the case but have a read here: http://www.idmsvcs.com/2vmod/remotestart/index.html

This part was interesting
The powercode units have a seperate daughterboard inside them called DNA that contains the programming of the unit.
This allows for inexpensive changes of feature sets, for instance turn a keyless entry system into an alarm.
Note that each DNA cartridge has it's own unique menu of programming options.
Also note that there are two different revisions of the main control assembly, one allows for only alarm & keyless entry functions. The other allows for alarm, keyless entry and remote start features.
Good find and good resource thank you.

that explains version C and D. E is the alarm only with the module integrated with the siren. F is the shock sensor only. G is the module only. A seems to be the keyless entry with the alarm, and i dont know what B is. The A version i have found aren't completely clear. I messaged a seller on ebay regarding on kit, so im waiting to hear back.

Thanks for the research! Since these are basic systems, it seems like the first link you posted is just keyless entry, but the second link that has keyless entry supposedly too, has arm/disarm for the security system. I presume these actions include lock and unlock? Too bad there isn't a brochure, or manual somewhere that explains this.
Also, the third link you posted doesn't work.
Be honest with you, I don't really have any answers to your questions. I would think the arm/disarm function for the security system locks and unlocks the doors. From what I can gather about the options on the anti-theft system, the arm/disarm could activate a number of things, such as a siren (presumably similar to how a modern car's horn goes off).

The third link works for me... Weird. Here's the raw link, not hyperlinked:

Here's something else I came across earlier today:

I can't remember if I said in my previous post, but the master parts text I'm looking at is for 1980-89 light trucks, so it's very possible your 93 has something different... Especially considering the Ranger redesign for that year.

Edit: Some more goodies --

Thanks for more insight. I ended up buying the correct alarm system for my year: F3AZ-19A361-A, and i read through the online manual and it seems to lock and unlock the doors with the arm/disarm feature which interacts with other components.

The kit in the first link you sent is for 88 and seems incomplete since i dont see the control module or the 2nd key fob. The 2nd link has an integrated siren, and I believe it's an add-on since it's the "E" kit. the A kit is the complete package, as discussed with @RonD above.

I also bought a complete kit for a 88/89 since it had the retro key fobs. I don't need it afterall, but i guess it could come in handy if i get another old ranger lol.

My credo
Doing things wrong, until I get it right.
I want to say it was a small red LED on the dash somewhere. I could be totally off, too.

Indeed it's this light and the manual says to install it on the left side of the steering column, in the bezel

I just want to see an example of the exact location. In general i have seen them in the past, but my memory isn't reliable.
