I have acquired a divorced NP205 t-case from a mid 70's F250. I understand that they only have 1.96:1 low range. Am I able to buy a gear kit for 3:1 or even 4:1 low range? If so does anyone know where I would order a kit from. Thanks.

You can get lower gears for the np205 but as far as I know it requires the use of their new tcase housing too.

It's 2/3rds the price of an Atlas when all said and done and it's called the Lowmax 3.0 NP205.

The site says NO Ford and NO divorced applications. I've searched a bit myself before and found nothing. Maybe I need to go another direction with the t-case. I don't trust the chain drive since I spooled the rear! Want a gear drive with at least the 2.48:1 the BW1354 has. 3:1 would be a lot better but cost is a concern too! I was going to put a 2 wheel drive M5OD in and run the divorced NP205 (no adapter plates needed). $120 for the tranny at the scrap yard and a flat of beer to a welder buddy to cut drive shafts and make a t-case support. Got any suggestions???

What kinda wheel base you playing with?

The 1350/1354 are plenty strong cases, I have run them for years, I'm spooled front and rear and sitting on 38" TSL's and full width axles and haven't had much problems with them.

A cast iron gear drive is definitely the stronger way to go. What if you threw the divorced 205 behind your existing 1354? If you have a welder buddy who can weld aluminium you could cut the front drive off the tcase and weld in a plate to seal it back up. Then run a d-shaft to the np205 from the back output of the 1354...........

A T-shift Dana 20 is 2.48:1, a J-shift Dana 20 is 2.36:1...Both of these came in the early bronco...

Going to crush the red regular cab this winter. I need the room of a super cab! Not sure if I'll keep the reg cab short box frame - probably not. I like the short wheelbase on the trail but want to do the GM leaf spring swap and I think the super cab mounts on the reg cab frame line up perfect where the GM leafs will end up. Super cab frame I can do the leaf swap, run a double t-case and have a nice length single piece rear dshaft. Longer wheelbase = more comfort anyway. I have the Skyjacker radius arms - will the longer front dshaft hit the Skyjacker tranny x-member? In regards to the Dana t-cases from the Bronco's - are they divorced or married?

Its highly recommended to build a trans crossmember with extended radius arms as they are so close to the trans mount...Like Gwai said, the Ford 20's are married, but they do have divorced dana 20's, but they are passenger drop...

I like the idea of using the divorced 205 behind my 1354. When the front drive half is removed there is no more chain used, right? Do I have to completely disassemble the 1354 prior to cutting it? I've only ever blown the tail housing off and replaced my t-case with another - never opened one up before. New drain and fill plugs would need to be put in too I think - how full do I fill the remainder of the 1354? Is there a MINIMUM length the dshaft from the 1354 to the 205 needs to be? Does anyone have a picture of what I have to do to my tranny xmember?

Gwai will chime in on the technical stuff, but it would be better if you mated the 1354 half and the 205 instead of trying to convert the 1354 into a reduction box...And yeah, custom crossmembers will be needed to support the added driveline weight, and rather than cut up a 1354, I'd locate a 1350 to use, they are plentiful and use the same reduction parts as the 54...

What do you mean by mate the 54 to the 205? Bolt them directly to each other instead of running a dhaft? I would still have to cut the front drive half of the 54 off to clear the front dshaft no?

Yeah, you still need to cut the front section to make it into a reduction box, then mate it to the 205...

i've never heard of anyone doing that particular combination, but theres no reason it couldnt be done.just need a fullsize tailshaft to use on the output end of the doubler box,and the right shape for the back plate.

hmmmmm...got me thinking now-and that's dangerous.

Gwai, I'm thinking of using a 1356 for a reduction box with and my dana 20 behind it...What ya think about that idea?? I'm running an explorer motor and the 4R70W trans and currently the 4405 Tcase, so I need low range bad...

i've built a 1356 box to put a 205 behind,it wasn't too difficult.with the right input the 20 should be a good choice.it is smaller, but still strong as rocks, and has a better low as well.
i liked the one i used with the tranny doubler.
