If this is a "wheel" + "rim", what is the combo of the 2 called. It seems that people tend to use the two words to describe the same piece of equipment.

Is it a "rim' with out a tire? OR is it a "wheel" with out a tire.

What is a "wheel/rim" combination called?

Maybe this vdo will help some of us. Maybe NOT.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

I thought they were rhetorical questions. The video seemed to do as good a job as anything at resolving a non-issue.

Why even bother ?
Bored and had time.

same here.
For ME, the issue is this ...
By the way, those are cheap wheels, the rim is just the outer ring that holds the tire.
There seems to be confusion, by some, on 'what' is called 'what'.

MY question is... IF there is a difference in a "rim" and a "wheel", what are the two combined called OR are they forever separated by vocabulary.
Then we get into one, two, and three piece wheels/rims.

I just use those two terms interchangeably and accept the occasional side-effects. Wheel seems like the better term.

I've always considered a wheel as the metal part plus the rubber part. The metal part I call a rim. Just the way I've always thought about it.

Think of it this way. There are split rim wheels and non split rim wheels.

The rim is part of the wheel.

I think it originates from the wagon days. I believe the channel that holds the rubber to a wagon wheel is also called a rim. The rubber is the tire.

Also, the metal band on wagon wheels that don’t have the rubber is called a tire.

The complete assembly, tire and all is called a wheel.

So, it would appear that the proper term is wheel, whether the wheel has a tire on it or not.

Now let's talk about magazines vs clips.

For the lulz:
View attachment 73088
That’s a whole different can of worms!

A clip hold ammunition to load a magazine. Some just hold the ammunition until it’s pressed into the magazine and others go into the magazine and have feed lips so that the firearm can properly function.

Stripper clips typically only hold the ammunition until it gets pushed into the magazine.

Enbloc clips like, used in the M1 Garand, go into the magazine and are part of the magazine operation. These are an older design from before the detachable magazine was perfected. Some clips dropped out of the bottom of the magazine when empty instead of being popped up and out.

NO NO NO NO
A 'magazine' is a periodical publication containing articles and illustrations, typically covering a particular subject or area of interest

A 'clip' is when you cut out one of the articles/illustraions OUT of the magazine
