Hey ya'll. Mods, feel free to move this to a different forum if this isn't correct.

1989 Bronco II 2.9L

Was replacing my brake lines when I happened to break one of the fuel connectors at the fuel filter. So I did not relieve the pressure the correct way. Swapped the filter out, put a new end on the line, and checked the inertia switch (it shows red). Turn the engine to "on" and can't here the fuel pump kick on. Was running perfectly fine beforehand.

Any ideas?

If button is UP on inertia switch push it back down

It shouldn't "show red", the button is always red but you shouldn't see the button unless its popped up, so push it back down

The 12volt power for the fuel pump runs in the frame rail where you were working on brake line and fuel filter
Just saying, any wires get fouled up?

Does the gas gauge work OK?
Its wire in in that same group of wires

Literally first time i used the ranger station was to find that. Mine tripped when I ran out of fuel.

Nothing seems to move when I push it down.
I didn't mess with the wiring. But the gas gauge worked...sometimes. You think the sender just happened to go at the same time?

Yes, looks like inertia switch is OK

You can manually activate the fuel pump relay using the OBD connector in engine bay, passenger side on main wiring harness

Have a look here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/OBD_I.shtml

2nd drawing shows the OBD/VIP connector, and fuel pump slot is labelled
That slot is the ground for fuel pump relay and if grounded with jumper wire the fuel pump relay should "click" closed, IF....Key is on

So turn on the key
Use a jumper wire to ground that slot and you should hear the fuel pump relay click closed
If you hear the relay but don't hear the fuel pump running then either the fuel pump fuse is blown, or there is a wiring issue.
With relay closed test for 12v at the inertia switch, BOTH connectors should have 12v
If not then FP fuse is blown or wire from relay to inertia switch is bad

If there is 12v at inertia switch but no fuel pump noise then wire from inertia switch to fuel pump is bad
Assuming fuel pump didn't fail at this exact time, a real long shot but not a no shot

Fuel pump and fuel gauge sender, BOTH need good grounds, these 2 grounds can be at the frame rail, near where you were working or the can be near the inertia switch, behind passenger side kick panel

I found the problem!
It would appear the ground for the RABS somehow became disconnected. At least, that's what the shop manual called it.
Now. Why the hell would a lack of ABS cause a no start?

My credo
Give 'yer balls a tug. Fight me.
Your other grounds are probably shot.

Acquire 6gauge wire. Look at how to solder ends on YouTube. Make a bunch of ground straps, engine, frame, cab. I have a second frame and cab ground coming off my big assed alternator. EEC-IV does not like bad grounds. At all. Ground the hell out of everything.

Sounds like I've got a winter project.
