Hey y’all,
New to the site and was wondering if anyone might be able to point me in the right direction with regards to my transmission issue.

Earlier today I was backing up a small inclined driveway and heard a loud pop like I ran into something. I got out and looked around and didn’t see anything, got back in my truck and my reverse was not working. It basically sounds like I’m just in neutral when in reverse. Also went for a drive around the block to see if anything else was going on and all my other gears worked fine through 1 with engine breaking as I couldn’t go past 25 without my rpms increasing. After looking around the site I feel that it is probably my reverse band but could also be a gasket. Anyways I’d appreciate any help I could get as we know how expensive transmission repair can be. I’m fairly handy with a wrench but have never gotten into transmission work. Thanks in advance

My credo
If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem
Welcome to the forum, classic symptom of reverse band broken. Won’t be a gasket issue.

Thanks for your reply @Transman304
Unfortunately I went ahead and took off everything to look at my valve body gasket and it looked as good as new. So it sounds like I need to rebuild the transmission then? Thanks again for your help, this is my first truck and I’d like to keep it on the road for as long as I can but it seems like the cost to get it fixed might be to high to justify keeping it.
