So they built a twin turbo pushrod 7.3 that is still less power than a predator 5.2 and you wonder why I don't care...

A quad cam engine is gonna spank a pushrod 2 valve motor consistently and still be reliable. It's physics... they can push that Godzilla engine to the max and a predator will still best it because it's flat out a better engine design.

The predator is 760hp.
Yeah, because Ford knows we all love to have as many looong timing chains in our engines as they can possibly fit in them.. I can't wait for the new Ford Octagonal Cam 4.0 with variable valve timing, 16 timing chains, 32 defective tensioners, plus a balancer chain..

The Coyote was a high maintenance, mechanical engineering mistake.
The Predator is an over-grown 4.6 that no one here will ever own because $$$
The Godzilla is actually doable for guys like us, and being more of a traditional design, it's reliability should end up being legendary.

Crossed threads are tight threads.
No, displacement is the most reliable way to get more power
A stock V8 will always be more reliable than a boosted I4
But a boosted I4 will have better MPG than the V8, because of its lower displacement during lower power situations

If you want to stick with the trained man vs fat man analogy then the trained man will have more injuries while training than the beer drinking fat man with no training
Thats exactly what I was trying to say.

actually those engines were made by Yamaha. they were rated at 220 hp.
the 2 blocks, Vulcan & Yamaha, were nearly identical in bore & stroke, all the extra power came from heads, intake, and exhaust manifolds.
I've always heard of it as a co-development, was using it as an example of airflow vs displacement. I'm interested to see how they flow when one adds boost to them though, haha.

For what it's worth, if there's anyone around here that knows SHO history, PJToledo's the guy.

From a maintenance standpoint the coyote has been a pretty solid engine.

I'm not disputing that, I actually did some research after and I was wrong in my assumption, so there's that.

What's the difference between Coyote-Predator-VooDoo?
And
What is the 5.0 with the GT40 heads called. just so i can get clarified.
I could google it, but TRS is way more better.

Coyote - DOHC 5.0 mod motor. In '11+ Mustang GT' s and F-150's
Voodoo - DOHC 5.2 flat plane crank. (google it because it is interesting and then youtube it because they sound evil/awesome) mod motor found in newer GT-350's.
Predator - DOHC 5.2 cross plane crank (normal) with a supercharger. Found in newer GT-500's.

GT40 head pushrod 5.0 is a old school 302 either out of a Cobra or Explorer.

there are a few supercharged or turbocharged early SHOs.
check shoforum.com or shosource.com for more info.
shoforum also has a facebook page.

I have drifted away from the group over the years.
Rumor has it a member from Colorado used to be involved with them. he posts here frequently.

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
One of the worst things Ford has ever done is put unequal length Headers on the flat planed motor, so it had the traditional cross plane v8 rumble Americans are so used to.. They didn't think we'd like the tone of the exhaust lol.

Eventually, I'd like to build a flat plane LS for my caprice. An old rusty station wagon that sounds (and goes) like a Ferrari just sounds so good to me.

Coming in second just makes you the first loser!
So back to my original post. I've asked around and this is the best answer I think I've gotten. Just because an engine has more liters than another doesn't mean it's using all that space (displacement) efficiently. Adding DOHC's and 24 valves with better flowing heads and intake let the 3.8L in the Highlander use the displacement more efficiency and therefore produces more Hp. If the 3.8L had a SOHC and 2 valves per cylinder it would not make as much Hp. When the intake valves close, the 3.8L has probably taken in more air/fuel mixture than the 4.0L. Compressing that volume in a smaller cylinder creates a larger explosion and in turn more Hp. With all things being equal, an engine with higher displacement will make more Hp. than a lower displacement engine. Now it makes sense to me.
