It was standard...I have a 2009 Ranger brochure and it states under standard equipment, "Cigarette Lighter and Ashtray".
Ashtray makes a nice coin holder.

It was standard unless you got more options. The 4x4 models with fog lights only had a power outlet because the extra buttons took up the space where the cigarette lighter would go lol.

2010 Ranger brochure still lists the lighter and ash tray as standard, along with the power point.
2011 lists power point only, the lighter and ash tray, the "Smokers Package" was an option.

My 2011 has a power point and a cigarette lighter with one of those cup holder ash trays. It may be the exception instead of the norm. I didn't not look at the Sport models or the black XLT that was on the lot and I have not seen any 2010 or 2011s in person to compare.

I remember the '85 being the 2.0 and 4 speed, but I'm not sure which years S's that I had (85, 87, and 88) went to the 2.3L and 5 speed. I kept trading them in before racking up too many miles, and by the time that I got the 1989 I could switch from base models to XLT's.

The dealership I worked with moved a LOT of Ranger S models. I liked to tell them "S" stood for "Stripped".

Mines an '87 but came with a carbureted 2.0. I hated that stupid Aisan carb. My Pappaw did the same thing getting base model trucks, then one of my first memories was him pulling up in a brand new '90 XLT. Full cloth interior, aluminum wheels, A/C, it was really something.

My 83 was an reg cab XLT but had the 2.0L carbed with the 4 spd manual and power nothing. Carb was a bit of a pain but I wish I still had it. It did have a radio and carpeting but not much of anything else. Was rust an option?

Rust is not an option. It is an almost mandatory time-delayed add-on. More of a "hidden feature" or an "Easter egg" of the automotive world.

I have a theory on rust I tell people when they talk about how rusty my F150 is. Ford knew that over the years the motor would wear and make less power and get worse mileage so they made the body to lighten up on it's own. That way after 35 years it still seems as powerful as always due to the weight reduction.
