Howdy folks, I'm still relatively new to the 4x4 scene and I don't know very much about suspensions. I currently have an old 2" Rancho suspension lift on my truck that the original owner installed. I would like to have a 4" lift because I'm tired of my front bumper hitting dirt, and stronger leafs in the rear (for the bumper/tire carrier I'm gonna have built) but I don't know where to start.

I was thinking of just pulling out the Rancho kit and putting in either a Rough Country or Skyjacker 4". Are there kits out there that just don't include shocks? Because I LOVE my Rancho shocks.

Then again, this option is very expensive, and I'm curious if I can modify my current Rancho setup to get more height out of it. I'm aware it's possible in the rear, but like I said, I know nothing about the front.

Also, are there stronger leafs that I can get that don't make the ride more rough? Or are strength and comfort mutually exclusive?

I've the Rough Country kit (500 versus Sky-JACK-your-Money) at 4" on my beater

I like it and I've driven everyone's kits while at Moab and other places, heck if I can tell the difference.

Anyways, what I do hate is that it blocks the rear springs. I don't know why they even sell such stupid stuff!

What you want to do is buy "lift springs" to avoid that and keep the ride nice. Luckily, I saved enough dough that I can buy those in the future... and wheel spacers... and the 8.8 inch rear... and...

You're gonna get addicted bra

Here's how the kit looks:

An add a leaf will stiffen the rear, and bring you up an inch or 2.

Rough Country lifts are great for looking cool at the mall, but the brackets aren't strong enough for serious off roading. Skyjacker is a better lift, hence why it is more. I've seen Rough Country lifts bend and break off road, while I was airing out my 6" Skyjacker with no issues

What did you get for shocks? Stock or lifted ones? Stock ones wouldn't work with more lift obviously, but you might get by if they're lift shocks.

Might be able to buy just the brackets from skyjacker, then add a 2" spacer to your Rancho lift springs.
