I just looked at my 6 ton stands... they're red and look like the three ton pictured. Those model numbers are not on them. 56369 is the number on mine.

Doesn't make me feel much better though...

After watching the video... I'm a little more at ease. These look to have better tooth engagement then even his good set.

Geez, this is some scary shit. I have a few very old sets of jack stands of different makes so doubt it affects me, but I'll give them all a look to see how the geometry is holding up. The defective ones clearly don't look right but I'm not sure I'd ever look carefully. I do the PJ thing and keep the jack under there if possible.

ABOUT ****ING TIME.

They're pieces of sh*t. They're why I keep the jack under it as a safety. If I didn't do that, my 2011 would have fallen of the stands on its test nudge.

Whatever part I'm under, the jack follows me around as a backup. Not perfect, but works.

I'm pretty sure mine are both Craftsman but I still do the same thing. The jack stays under as a back up. Partly because I have a gravel driveway and things can sometimes shift. I also put ply wood pads under the bases of the jack stands and the jack because of said gravel driveway. One time of having a vehicle fall while jacking it up and having to do a floor repair was enough to have more than one system in place.

How do you **** up making a jack stand? Not exactly complex engineering involved here...

I personally dont have a set from Habor Freight but I do have many of there tools and know many that visit the forums have purchased tools there also so when I saw this recall I wanted to share it to keep people safe while working on there vehicles.

I have a set of blue 6 tons from an unknown brand that I purchased back in '02, a set of AC Delco 3 tons and a cheap set of duralast that came with my most recent trolly jack. The only ones that scare me are the duralast set since they look cheap and not as well built as the others but they fit in a case in the bed so I use them with the jack still holding some of the weight.

I frequently slide a spare tire or monster sized chunk of wood under the frame to limit the fall.

DO NOT USE CEMENT BLOCKS, falling things easily break them. especially if the holes are horizontal.

Anything I stuck in there like that, I build it up to within an inch or two of the frame. So it will only fall an inch or two and not buildup enough momentum to break a cement block (holes always vertical)

Whos really good at internet-ing? I'd almost be willing to bet it's not just the harbor fraught jackstands affected, the same stands from the same factory probably get sold under a dozen different names.

Checked last night and I have 4- 6 ton stands that need to go back. They've always seemed very sturdy. I can't count the number of times I've risked my life under the truck.

from the video it appears the culprit is poorly cast risers. not enough metal for the teeth to engage securely. if they have well defined and deep teeth I wouldn't be worried.

I have a pair of the 6 tons with that model number. But they look properly formed. I won't worry about them. My old gray 3 ton stands no longer have any labels. But they also look fine.
