New tools you've bought recently?

Oh, I knew it wasn't you. Channels have been reporting the subscribers have been mysteriously being unsubscribed for some time now. It's something with youtube.

I have a friend who actually has enough subscribers, views, etc. That youtube and facebook pay him. He is convinced that they manipulate subscribers/followers based on other controversial things he occasionally posts. Aside from his conspiracy theories, it's amazing what the "youtube / social media game" entails. Watching numbers, posting videos/shorts/reels/posts and whatever in sufficient numbers and with regular frequency is a full-time job if you want to actually make decent money.

I'm just sharing when I get the itch.

Here's a couple new tools I got recently.

Didn't really need this one but for $20 at a yard sale I couldn't pass it up. I sharpened a handful of chains with it yesterday and I think I can hand file them much better... BUT... I acquired a few that were really bad and it worked great for cleaning those up. Somebody must have been cutting rocks because I had to grind about half a tooth off in several spots to get into good metal. It's certainly quicker than swapping chains on and off a saw to get them all sharp.

I did need this. I have been using an ancient Goodell Pratt wood lathe for years and it worked fine but the chuck was just terrible. Picked up the lathe itself for $110 from a pawn shop but it was missing the chuck - another pawn shop had a Bauer chuck for $75 so combined with the live center & drill chuck that came with my metal lathe, I have a complete unit. I need to make some tool handles and other little things so this will be just the ticket for that.

I thought that type of ratchet would be silly, they are fantastic... I have the HFT 1/4" version and the Husky 3/8" version, the HFT has a locking detent, very nice feature...

Kobalt is my go-to for those round swivel head ratchets. Literally the only Kobalt tool I will buy.

Pear head ratchets are usually GearWrench. I have a bunch, and I treasure them all... super good quality. Duralast from AutoZone is a close second, they keep discontinuing my favorite ones though. Proto, Icon & Snap-on are pretty good too.

Normal round heads - I've used every brand under the sun and Evercraft from NAPA is my favorite. They make one long-ish handle 3/8 flex head that is by far my favorite ratchet ever made. As far as SK goes - I have half a dozen of old ratchets and a variety of other tools. I just can't get into them. I don't know why, they seem like really high quality tools but they just never felt right in my hand. Same goes for some of the other good old brands... Husky, New Britain, Black Hawk, etc... meh.

I got rid of my crappy cabinet sand blaster and built a small bench in its place for the new wood lathe. I intentionally made it just a bit bigger than the lathe itself so that I’m not tempted to turn the bench into a catch all for junk.

I bought this just 8-9 days ago, it was on clearance...must have sold out. They only had ¼" and ⅜" remaining, the ½" dr. had already sold out.

I saw a similar wrench at The Lowe's this evening, Craftsman brand ⅜" dr. for $43.00.

I finally got sick of using a lug wrench on lug nuts and spent 89.99 on a bauer (harbor freight) electric impact gun.

Ive used it a few times already. Has zero problem with lugnuts. It claims 1050ftlb breakaway torque.

Yes i know cordless is the way everyone goes now, but for 1/3 the cost i can live with dragging a cord around

Amen on tugging cords.

I have a 20 V Dewalt 3/8 impact wrench with two batteries it works great. 90% of the problem with getting lugged nuts off is tightening them too hard when you put them on.

Having said that, I have picked up some great tools for little money when they were transitioning everything to batteries. I have a Weedwhacker that I swear, will take down a 4 inch oak tree, electric chainsaw, a long electric chainsaw, etc etc.

The Weedwhacker was $179 marked down to $29.

IMHO, especially if it’s for something you don’t use every day, it’s the way to go!
