New tools you've bought recently?

Does tools we make count? I understand that something similar could be bought to mount a router but my 1940's Walker-Turner drill press is rugged.

I needed to reach down in and trim the backside plastic of an instrument cluster bezel. With no way to support a router on the bezel, I thought I could make a mount to hold one of my two cheap Harbor Fright trim routers in my drill press. I could then insert the router, lock at the proper depth, and move the bezel over the drill press bed as needed.

The first:

Not liking the offset, I sacrificed my second router for a more centered mount:

I have yet to try these but feel confident.

Can this be moved to Homemade tools?

We actually have a thread for home-made tools. Cool idea.

Any reason not to just Chuck the router bit into the drill press itself? I know it would turn a lot slower. But for trimming sift plastics, might work fine with less melting.

These have been in my "saved for later" list for a long time. Today, they were a Prime Day deal at 35%off. Wish I could have bought 2 sets. 10 ton capacity with extra height. Won't need cribbing for use under the Ranger.

after forming up the fuel tank parts for the gt,i posted a pic of this; which i used to form up the parts.there were some questions about it's construction which i will try to address here. at the same time it would be interesting to see some of the homemade tools others have come up with to...

If you're looking for a decent lightweight yet cost effective 12v drill I've been quite impressed with the hyper tough brushless unit I picked up a few months back on a whim. I've used it to drill a few hundred holes in aluminum and the only complaint I've had is the chuck has a bit of side to side play now but it's minimal and it isn't a precision instrument. Out the door it was 47 bucks with a small battery and a charger included. I decided to pick up the fast charger and the 4AH battery pack for another 40 bucks because as luck would have it, the batteries work great in my power torque (oreilly house brand) mini polisher/sander as well

Got a brake lines flaring kit. Got the expensive one that can do bubble flares as the master cylinder requires it. Gonna replace master, booster and lines down to the wheels. They are pretty crusty, and the master is iffy. Got a few weeks until LBL so that is my project for the week

You know, I had someone show me a lever style brake flaring tool once. It was really pricey, but after getting one, those stupid twist the forcing screw things got thrown in the bottom of my tote for doing automotive plumbing and left there. Two pulls of the handle and you have a factory looking flare. Every time. Only disadvantage is that you can’t really use it on the vehicle. I showed my mechanic buddy Paul and he was so impressed he bought one too. I can’t remember if Paul got the extra die set, but I did. So the die set that came with mine does 45* single, double, bubble and DIN flares, plus I’ve found you can bulge tube for clamping rubber line on. The extra die set is for the 37* AN style flares. The only thing that I wish it did would be to AN flare 5/8 tube.
