Yep... some have some pretty bad rust areas...

Core support... bottom of the doors... the bed...

Did I miss any?

What's the first thing I should do to this besides tbe obvious fluid changes and box swap?

Depending on mileage... timing chain tensioners

OP- Congrats on the new truck. Mind if I ask how much you paid for the truck?

Check the core support on the radiator, it is probably rusted to bits. Also see how bad the support under the engine is, where it bolts to the front of the lower control arms. That spot is usually hit pretty well with road spray while driving.

Can we get some more shots of the really rusted areas?

UncleGump- I didn't think that the timing chain tensioners were a problem on the later 4.0 engines.

They aren't... by this time they should have the latest parts.

However an once of prevention is worth several pounds of cure in this instance.

Seems I heard they should be replaced every 75K... although I've never personally seen a Ford recommendation for it.

Under a grand Canadian. Worst spots are on the undersides of the bed. Seems to be sagging a little towards the front of the bed.

The majority of the rangers here are rust magnets and new boxes are impossible to come by. You can see in the pic posted that the box and cab do not line up.
