New to me '97 Ranger w/ trans problem

Hi, been quite awhile since I've been on here, I sold my '98 two years ago. I just picked up for a very cheap price, a '97 2wd reg cab, 3.0v6 auto. Has a 3" lift on it, tool box, etc, not a bad little truck. It runs real good, but has 180k on the clok. The reason I got it cheap is because when the truck sits overnight, the next morning the tranmission slips between 1st and 2nd until everything gets up to operating temp, then it shifts just fine.

1st, what trans is in this truck?

2nd, any idea if this could be a fairly easy fix?

Or, should I just throw a used transmission in there?

Thanks!

Welcome back.

Read the How to get an answer sticky and it will tell you what trans you have. You should follow the instructions to verify that the vehicle still has the factory transmision.

Transmision slipping can be as simple as low fluid or as drastic as a pump coming apart. Hard to say but there are a few others that may be able to help, though I am sure they want to know what transmision you have as well.

I did some research and found out that it's the 4r55e and I guess they have a valve body seperator plate issue. Not sure if this is what my issue might be though. I need to do some more digging on this!
