1989 Ford Ranger XLT swapped to a 4.0l with a FM146

Will not go into gear. I tried to put it in first, hold the clutch, then crank it, but it's like the clutch isn't engaged. It'll pull the truck forward like the clutch isn't held down.

Odd, the FM146 and M5OD-R1 used the same slave, the FM145 was different

I assume you have bled the clutch system and there are no leaks, so its holding pressure, you can feel pressure in the pedal?

Take top off the reservoir and pull out the air diaphragm(rubber cup) have some one push down on clutch pedal while you watch fluid in reservoir, it should NOT move, if you see fluid flow in then Master is bad

That’s what happens when you buy beat up garbage. I’ve had nothing but good luck with all of my Rangers overs the years. Yes, they do require some repairs... but everything does.

All you seem to do around here is badmouth Rangers and spread poor information... it’s getting old.
