which one would you buy for 40 large?

Would You Spend $40,000 On This Mint 6,000 Mile 1984 Ford F-150 Or On A Brand New F-150?

Found for sale in Michigan is 1984 Ford F-150 with apparently under 6,000 miles on its odometer. It looks absolutely perfect, which is why the asking price is nearly $40,000. You can buy a new F-150 for that much, but which of the two would you rather own?

While I would certainly love to have an '84 like that, there's no way I'd give $40k for it. Maybe $20k. So, for me, if I had to spend the $40k on one or the other, it would be the new truck.

For a collection or to show, the 84, if I had the $$$.
But for a daily driver/work truck, the new F-150.
The 84...as soon as you start racking up miles and ware/tare, it's going to loose it's "value" as a survivor, and become another nice older truck.

The 84 is cool and all... but my budget doesn't allow for 40K of cool to just sit there and be looked at.

Neither. I'll take door #3 - several super clean 1st gen Rangers and maybe even a couple Coyote swap pallets.

The 80s weren't a magical time for any cars.... emissions crap and terrible technology. It's neat that it was kept clean for 35 years but its just an old truck. I wouldnt pay more than 5 grand for it. If it was a 64 in that shape and mileage then we can talk.

I'd feel to guilty using it as a truck. At this point it belongs in a museum.

If i was a billionaire id buy it to crush in front of a stadium full of ford weirdos. I'd only let 4,000 people in, and charge $10.95 per ticket.

yeah If I had 40k, I would not spend it on any car/ truck... Lots of lower priced excellent condition vehicles out there, for under 10 grand.

If I had to choose, it would be the new one. when I buy a car or truck, it gets used. one may sit around a little more than the other, but it will get used, it will be dinged and scratched eventually. the 84 is nice, and I love the Bull nose style, but seriously, after driving it and getting some wear and tear, it will be just another nice looking 80's truck. worth maybe 10k. and that price drop will happen much quicker on the 84 than it will on the new truck.

Money aside, I'd rather have the '84 .

Since money can't be ignored , I wouldn't spend $40k on any vehicle, period .

And if I were to single out any year of medium era truck , the '72 F-100 is the one .

I agree it’s not worth the $40k.

Earlier this year, while truck shopping, I had my eye on an 89 F150. It was in great shape, fairly low miles and a high quality fiberglass matching tonneau cover. But for the same price, found the 97 that I bought. A few more miles, no tonneau. But I decided I wanted obd2 and a double din radio slot to put a navigation display radio in. It was actually a tough call. I like that other body style a lot better than what I bought. Plus, I don’t like white vehicles.

Bullnose is my favorite Ford truck period.

That said I wouldn't pay that much for a pristine low mile 2wd F-150 with a 302.

'86 F-350 4wd with a 6.2 swap in nice shape... now we talkin'
