I've actually had it for a few months...ViewSonic VG1930wm...very nice monitor...but I'd been meaning to turn it down a bit because if I turned it on in the morning when I just get out of bed it took me a while to adjust my eyes...:icon_surprised:

It was way too bright from the factory settings...so...today...having a slight headache...I decided to venture into the controls and tone it down a bit...

Not sure if I'm just getting old or it was set too high...but I now feel more comfortable with it...contrast 57 and brightness 78...it was at 100 and 100...think I burned a hole in my eyes...:icon_welder:

Nice big monitor. Newegg gives it 5 stars! Isn't that pre-setting known as "torch mode"? The avsforum.com suggests torch mode boosts sales cuz it looks better in showrooms, but not for normal use.

At home, I re-purposed a cheapo 30" HDTV for my desktop. Hope it lasts.

LOL...torch mode...I guess that's what it was set to because now it's much easier on the eyes.

Was thinking about using a TV before I bought this one and when my phone company offered "free TV" over the internet I opted for the monitor instead...when I finally got around to trying out the free tv it turned out to be only pre-recorded shows...:annoyed:

I was hoping to catch a hockey game or two live...guess I'm gonna have to create "plan B"...

When I was working in a call center for ten years I had to use 15" CRT monitors initially and those were brutal on the eyes...then we moved up to 17" CRTs before finally getting the LCDs in the last year or so...my eyes, aside from natural aging effects, have definitely lost some of their ability to focus on regular text documents or books...I can read almost anything on a computer screen without glasses...but now need glasses to read books etc...

One of the hazards of being glued to a computer monitor...turning down the brightness and contrast has made it quite a bit better to adjust between the two modes of viewing though...
