I suspect but don't know that the vehicles with the Ford Pass app capability might have the kill switch capability as well. If your phone can remote start your vehicle, I imagine Ford and the 'appropriate" authorities can as well. You can also use the app to show the location of the vehicle and other things. Soooo....

Teslas are notorious already for this kind of thing. What has happened is the range being set by the factory to zero to shut down the car for "updates".

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
If your vehicle is stolen it would be good if law enforcement could get the manufacturer to disable it so it could be recovered. Problem is, someone will hack into a system like that eventually and who knows who will be able to shut down a car- or when. If you're lucky, it will be some basement dwelling geek doing it because he thinks major traffic jams are hilarious. If you're not lucky it could be a car thief, kidnapper, or someone else you don't want to show up when you're on the side of the road.

hacking into the car is frightening
hacking the steering, acceleration, braking, and DOOR LOCKS would be downright terrifying.

If our government thinks it can be used to control the people, they'll be all over it like white on rice. Insufficient social credit score? Carbon footprint too high? Sorry, walk to work this week to get social credit points added to your score. That'll teach ya!

Could you pull a fuse to disable it or did gm integrate it with other major circuits like the fuel pump or ecu? Maybe gm has their own program like fords forscan where it could be disabled? I wouldnt want it functional in any form.
Most likely it would be integrated into another circuit for something you use, like the heated seats, or auxiliary power jacks, USB ports, who knows, but I bet they thought about the whole we'll just pull the fuse to disable it idea and made sure it was shared with something you use LOL...although with some wire tracing I bet you could easily install a cut off switch...AKA a pair of wire cutters and suddenly that cut-off device no longer works...but then the vehicle's ECM will detect that cut-off device not receiving power and probably just disable your vehicle LOL.

Yeah I'd imagine something like this would be programmed right into the ecm with no way of turning it off.

I'm curious to see what the incoming facial recognition crap is going to be like.. camera in all new vehicles that aims at the drivers face and won't start the vehicle if it thinks you're drunk/stoned/whatever

and you thought "cash4clunkers" was a great deal ..... they tricked the population into getting rid of obd1 vehicles into new stuff... while the older stuff was easier to work on, less computerized and more affordable in the secondary market ... Now they want to turn off your ignition ... GEEE imagine that ... and sheep will blindly hand over the vehicles they have now for the second round of "cash4clunkers" while selling you the age of "Tesla" ....

I never liked "Cash-for-clunkers" but unfortunately, the majority of car/truck owners are not enthusiasts. The kill switch will definitely be sold as safety against drunk/high driving. You shouldn't be asking how to avoid this, but how high are they going to raise my insurance because my truck doesn't have this feature?

After that, figure out a gas substitute when everything gas powered gets replaced by electric. Mowers, chainsaws, pumps... Figure forty or fifty years from now.
