After 14 years of flying for the same company, today is officially my last day. It's tough giving up that much seniority and pay to go to something new. I was at a place that I was comfortable and very secure. I was in the upper 10% of the seniority list and flying their top equipment. I've made a lot of good friends there and it's hard to move on to the unknown.

I start training at the new job tomorrow. I get to spend the next 2 weeks in ATL. I hope I made the right decision. I am going to be VERY junior at the new job and will be taking a significant pay cut initially. But in the long run I've made the correct decision..........right?

Congrats(?) on the new gig. What made you decide to leave such a secure place in your career?

What were you flying, Jay?

You may not be going to ATL tomorrow, they're under a winter storm watch/warning.

In will take about 3-4 years to get to the pay that it took me 14 years to get to at the old airline. In the long run it should be more money and more security.

I WAS flying the CRJ 900.

I came to ATL early today. It's already snowing/sleeting here.

Thank you for the congrats.

BEST of LUCK, it will all work out.

Man..14 years and you left? I'm not sure I would do that with the economy the way it is..but I sure do want to wish you the best. I know it is hard to start over again and then to loose pay to start? Very hard indeed. Keep that chin up, Bro!!

The part that's really insane is I just got a $6.50 raise a month ago.
I'll just let the jesus part go for now. lol

Luckily I'll be based in MN. So ATL is just for training.

It was the end goal of a dream that started when I was just a squirt. So even though it's a huge change, I'm no longer trying to reach the carrot. As far as being the captain...............not any more. I might have to change my screen name to "Copilot Jay"

12 years of being the captain. It's going to be a humbling experience to be the FO (first officer).

Every cockpit needs an experienced FO. Sounds like you're the right man for the job.
