So I am looking to purchase fuel injectors and am finding 3 options to purchase from Standard Motor Products. FJ712 FJ51 and FJ717. I have a stock freshly rebuilt 2.9 what is the difference in them and what I need to order. If only MoCo parts were still available..

Did the old ones run it?

Maybe just test and clean them... new o-rings and filters.

I hate to say it... but they just might be better then some of the aftermarkets.

Maybe someone else will have more help then I had.

Ok well I found the information I was looking for. With original injectors in hand last night I did some internet hunting by stamped part numbers and was able to determine what # was the Ford number and which was the original which led to OEM manufacturer. The longer of the two numbers is the OEM Bosch number and the shorter was Ford's part number. Unfortunately neither showed as subbed numbers on Rock Auto or anywhere else easily found to convert to a new number. I started searching for OEM Bosch injectors and found a couple here and there for roughly $130-150 dollars which was more than I was hoping to spend per injector. After some more digging I found a listing of the OEM injector on this site
https://www.injectorplanet.com/collections/ford-lincoln-mercury-motorcraft-fuel-injectors/products/bosch-0280150229https://www.injectorplanet.com/collections/ford-lincoln-mercury-motorcraft-fuel-injectors/products/bosch-0280150229 which listed exact specifications and alternate or sub part numbers which I found one of listed under the Rock Auto 3 choices of NEW Standard Motor Products injectors. I was able to find my replacement number which I was excited about. Figured I would share here as I haven't found this exact info here before and maybe it would be beneficial for someone later down the road. Now I agree with the above comment that maybe "NEW" injectors are of less quality than the OEM ones out of my engine so I will definitely keep them and probably clean test and rebuild them with the kits off of the above site just in case the new ones crap out or whatever. But hey I found what I was looking for!!

So update real quick while thinking about it I went ahead and ordered the rebuild kits in the link above as well and got a shareable discount code!

Side note I didn't order the injectors in the first link because although they look to be available they are in fact out of stock. But the kits weren't! So $16 more into this project should be a valid expense..

The internet is a beautiful thing...

Glad you found what you needed and rebuilding the ones you have is a good idea. As long as they test OK.

Toonces drives a Ranger . . . . just not very well.
Thanks for posting the info. Good luck, and I'd like to know how rebuilding them works out for you, when you get it done.

Avoid after market injectors like the plague. multi-hole pintle injectors do not play nice with 2.9l.

@RobbieD I'm planning to use the set I am purchasing and just holding on to the original ones in case I have an issue. Although @JerrySab is putting a little fear in my hope of the set I ordered being of any quality... So I'll have to see how they do. Will keep everyone posted on this but will be a while before I get a chance to set the engine.

Ive rebuilt mine twice. The old 2.9s had a steel fuel manifold and it rust if not in use. My injector screens were full of small rust particles both times i took them apart. It sits alot. 16.95 on amazon

I did the acid bath/flush on my fuel rail and installed new 15lb Accel injectors a couple years ago. The new injectors still work very well. I've been using Lucas ethanol fuel conditioner since then, as I believe the ethanol was the problem due to my truck sitting for days/weeks at a time.
I had bad results with "rebuilt" Ford multi-hole (4-hole?) injectors before buying the Accel injectors. Cleaning and rebuilding the old OEM Ford/Bosch injectors helped, but did not work as well as the new Accel injectors.

I rebuilt my original injectors and it made no difference. Then I bought a set flow-matched (they say) rebuilt and tested Bosch ones for $55 delivered off Ebay and wow what a difference. This is over a year ago and the truck runs like a bat out of hell. Got them from CS Performance, price now closer to $100 but worth it in my case anyway:

I have had some aftermarket nightmares with injectors. If you are going to buy new, go big or fix the old ones. I used Accel from Summit. Paid 300 I think for all of them and the all worked perfectly.
