Well I haven't been on here much in the past many months due to a lot going on in life. Haven't been a Ford owner in over a year until recently. Here is my new baby. 01 mustang GT. The best thing about this car is that its from south Carolina and has literally no rust which is not something you see in ohio. It is unfortunately an automatic but has the v8 at least. Looking at getting some wide cobra wheels here soon for it and maybe upgrade the exhaust. I will have to put in on the lift and get some pics underneath bc it's so damn clean especially being a 20 yr old car.

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
Autos are faster anyways. Put a shift kit in it, put it on some stickies, and go have fun at the drag strip.

Keep your mind like an umbrella, it only works if its open... Continually learning.
Its a good thing there isn't a group of people by the water... otherwise the mustang would be swimming. LOL

Sharp looking Mustang. Congrats.

They really are. Manuals may be more fun but the auto is simply faster no matter how good you are with a clutch especially if you throw a shift kit in it or better yet a manual valve body with a trans brake and a ratchet shifter. Vroom slap vroom slap vroom repeat!

Yeah, a manual valve body completely changes the game.

I went back and forth forever on what sort of transmission I wanted to put in my caprice wagon project.. 3 pedals is always super fun.. BUT.. my ultimate goal of getting the car to pull its front wheels up and my budget dictated I go with an auto. 1000hp rated manuals are ridiculous money. I got my transbrake th400 that retains engine braking in 1st and 2nd for a hair over 2k$ shipped to my door. I really need to focus and finish that damn car.

Get your Coba wheels...but those "Mustang Crager Mags" look sooooo good on that car.
Best of luck with it.

This bothers me, I haven't gotten to drive manual and automatic versions of the exact same car very many times but it's always been my impression that manuals are faster. People often compare automatic transmissions built for racing to stock manuals, why do dog rings, racing gearsets etc never get brought up? Also outside of drag racing you see a lot more manuals it seems, I doubt it's *entirely* just for fun.

(A little context on how fast a manual built for drag racing can be)

Thanks for the compliments. I haven't confirmed this yet but they guy I bought it from said the transmission was replaced with one from an 01 Saleen which anyone can say anything about anything when selling a vehicle. Our lift at work has been occupied and I just haven't had a chance to get under it to pull the numbers off the trans yet. It will shit and get pretty nicely. Seems mostly stock from what I did see. Stock exhaust which actually sounds pretty good. Would like to do a cat back x-pipe with flowmasters or something else. Anyone recommend a cat back exhaust? I have money to throw at this car. Haven't got the cobra wheels yet because the dude is waiting to get tires for his wheels. I ended up buying some tires for my current wheels because they were BALDIES with wires showing already. I may be doing a few too many burnouts haha.

Plans for this car:
x-pipe exhaust of some sort
programming tuner
May change headlights to smoked lenses as these are not very bright at night
upgrade the radio, has an older pioneer double DIN
upgrade the door speakers, passenger speaker sounds bad when turned up
install a system for funsies

Once I get it on the lift and get a picture of the underside you will see how clean this car is. It's unlike anything in Ohio especially being 20 years old. It still blows my mind how unmolested/rust-free this car is.

I wouldn’t put much faith in that statement. There were very few automatic Saleen made, and the chances are very slim that you have the trans out of one of them.

SLP Loudmouth is a sweet exhaust setup, but no mufflers so it is loud.

I think borola made the exhaust they used on the Cobra, that sounds very good too, just not super loud.

I had kooks longtubes and midpipes on my old crown vic, sounded awesome. Wasn't loud enough for my tastes.. but i was running stock tailpipes. Larger diameter tails would of been perfect.

If you are doing exhaust, should do the whole thing at once, easier that way. We all know long tubes are the best, can make any engine sound awesome.

I agree, that's why I'm waiting to get it on the lift and pull the numbers off the trans. I don't ever take anyones word when buying a car from them especially when he didn't have paperwork to back it up. I haven't had much chance to look into what brand exhaust I want. I want it to have a nice growl but not so loud I can't talk to the passenger you know. had a 97 gt with flowmasters but it wasn't loud enough. I think they were the 40 series flowmasters if im thinking right. Anyway, i'm sure anything borla would be good. I don't mind spending the extra money if it will be worth it.
