I do not have experience with the GM version of the M90, but I have over 10k miles on my Moddbox conversion on the 09, and I had a 03 Ranger that I put the rpcaster supercharger kit on and drove it at least 50k miles before selling it. Both of those kits use the T-Bird M90. In both cases I changed out the input shaft seals and the drive coupler, and put in new oil in the blower. Those blowers are very reliable and last for a very long time, and I have had zero issues with either of them.

I have probably put 3000 miles on my M62 pushing 5-7psi. Over 1000 miles of that being VERY abusive offroading. I will say, heat is a huge problem. Truck runs 210* and climbs to 230* really quick with any abuse. I have tried everything from no thermostat, to 3/4" orifice, to 160*, 180* and 195*. I have tried E-Fans, stock plastic tank rad and now a full aluminum rad with a factory mech fan with "severe duty" clutch. I used to run an oil cooler through automatic trans cooler portion of the rad too.

Currently the factory fan, shroud and no oil cooler is doing best. I will likely add a remotely mounted external oil cooler with an E-fan later. My next build will have no AC and potentially a rear mounted radiator.

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback. Iwill be running the OHV, but Iappreciate knowing the reliability.

Thanks for the info. I have read and heard that heat is an issue. Iam going to run an air intercooler in mine most likely to try and help. I may also run hood vents when I put on my fiberglass hood.

Im here to learn, as im trying to buy a complete engine 4.0 OHV thats been rebuilt with a supercharger and wondering what else is needed to make it runs, engine was built and never put into the truck and has been sitting in a crate for years, im mechanically inclined and know all about N/A, not not forced induction, id assume it already has bigger injectors and throttle body, bit what about engine management

It depends on the supercharger being used. I would not go lower than an M90 (90CFM). Those were made for 3.8L; so close to the 4.0L size. You can run a smaller blower, like an M62, but you'll be spinning it pretty hard. You can can also go bigger, like an M112 or M122; which will need stronger injectors.
M90 - You can run them with stock injectors and pulley sizing. Anything above that will likely require stronger injectors. Tuning will always improve the performance, but is not required. The M90 Gen V pictured above is off a GTP. It requires a 1" offset pulley and small modification to the firewall/cowl. I would recommend one of the shorter styles.

You can swap the shorter snout from the other GM M90 and then you have plenty of room, except it tends to put the blower too far forward on the engine.

I thought I'd post an update. You can follow by build on Youtube: Manscout Raptor Ranger Build
Another update: Went down to a 3.4 pulley and got this:

Almost 2lbs of boost at 2700RPM. I finally found a shop here that will make me a 3.15 pulley via CNC. That should get me to the 3-4lbs range at 3000RPM.

That seems too low of boost for the size pulley you have. What did the rotors look like on that blower before you installed it?

The rotors are in great condition. That is the correct boost level. Keep in mind:
  • The stock pulley on a GM M90 was a 3.8 w/ a 7" harmonic balancer. That equates to ~1.82 ratio.
  • The same setup on a Ford 4.0L w/ a 6" harmonic balancer equates to ~1.51 ratio.
  • Getting to the 1.82 ratio on the 4.0L requires ~3.2 pulley.
  • The GM 3800 easily went 4-5k rpm. I never go over 3k rpm with my 4.0l, so I want boost coming on at lower RPM. Hence the 3.1-3.2 pulley I am having fabricated.
