Haha, I'll be swapping a 96 Explorer to a 93 Ranger. I cannot recall all the details, you will have a more complete answer soon I expect.
Best of my knowledge it works well enough up to the intakes, and from there you'll need extensive rewiring or use the old intakes to match your harness

Biggest thing will be wireing and ECM. 94 is EEC IV (OBDI) 96 is OBD II

Will I have that problem if I plan on taking the intake off the 96 and put it on the 94 motor all I plan on swapping is the block heads after I do the rebuild

The parts will interchange for sure. But im not sure if the sensors are different or in different spots or whatever. Ive never done nothing to a newer 4.0 besides change oil lol.

The 94 doesn't have a cam sensor and I think the 97 does.

In 95 there were changes in the head. Apparently to get the O2 sensor working faster. I've heard that using the newer heads with an older computer will significantly shorten the life of the engine. Not sure how it would play out in reverse.

Seems to me as long as you used the 96 intake, injectors, sensor, and wiring harness on the 94 engine it'd be fine.
