I have a 1999 ranger 4x4 3.0L manual trans. It has the key with a chip in it, the other night someone broke into it and tried to steal it. Broke up the key switch , if i hold the key just right it will start right up. Help i need is how is the best way to fix it. A new switch comes with new keys , can they be program to my truck . I talked to a key shop here and they weren't sure. Thanks

A locksmith should be able to re-pin(recode) a new lock cylinder to match your current key(s)

Google: Recoding a new ignition lock cylinder

There is a short video on how its done, but you should have a recoding kit with extra parts which is why a locksmith is better to do this
The thief may have damaged some of the pins

Get a new cylinder with keys and take that and old cylinder with keys to the locksmith

I second that RonD.
When I did mine on a 94 I went the cheap route - I didn't know any better and I didn't have the funds, even though it wasn't that much.

Now I regret it. Go the Locksmith route.
