Saskatchewan...hard to spell...easy to draw
I'm sorry. I thought the truck would run but badly. It needs to be running for half these tests. Go through all the wiring associated with the MAF. Check the pins at the ecm that the maf plugs into.

The MAF does not go into the fuse box? Does it go directly to the ECU?

I could be thinking of a newer year but just follow the wires to the source

Poor guy put alot of parts on it already. If the grounds test good that eliminates the pcm/ecm/pewter. Trace the wires. Only 2 if grounds are good. Maybe have a good look at the MAF pins where the harness plugs in.

The first thing to do when you get a "new" vehicle is get a repair manual which is specific to that vehicle, I mean like day one, on the way home, and use it
The guy at the parts store is trying to be helpful but usually knows no more about the vehicle than the grocery clerk

My truck doesn't depend on those gauges to be at any certain level, I guess if they didn't work at all the engine would still run
The Mass Airflow tunnel I spayed it a LONG time ago with that MAF Sensor cleaner but don't recall it making any difference in anything

I'm really not sure where you are Max. The first thing to confirm on any engine is does it have gas, spark, and compression. And some air of course
I have never much considered the Emissions controllers when troubleshooting an engine

My Ranger died once while on the highway and would not start.
I got a friend to haul it to the house
No matter what I did it didn't even act like it would run
I was working with an Explorer then so the Ranger just sat a couple weeks.
One day I was out there and turned the key and it fired right up, and it hasn't missed again to this day. I never did figure that one out

Why not just unplug the maf sensor if it will not run well with it?

Because it is not a solution to the problem, but a temporary "crutch")
I'm not arguing, I just drove 100 km, but at idle the car wants to stall, and it needs constant encouragement throttle)
