need flexplate for 302

I have 1986 Ranger 4x4 and want to install a 302 . I bought what I was told was A 302 but not Sure, only casting mark on block is EORF.
There is a stamped # at rear of block behind intake E1124041. Have T-5 trans but don't know what flexplate I need. What tooth count and counter weight.

Any help would be appreciated

If you're using a T5 you don't need a flex plate, you need a flywheel. You need to know how many teeth it should have- 157 is a common one but some had 164 and 302's through 81 had a 28.2 oz crankshaft imbalance and in 82 it went to 50 0z, you need to be sure what year you've got. Starting in 82 302's got a one piece rear main seal but I'm not sure that every engine with a one piece seal is the 50 oz imbalance. I guess the best thing is to pull the oil pan and check the casting number on the crankshaft.

Hi, to locate the engine block's casting number look on the section of the block where Ford stamped the casting number. This is directly beside the starter mount, where the starter motor bolts to the engine.

and here is a page where you can check the numbers to the list to see if your block number is in there.

my mistake, the trans is C5, casting block # is EOAE-D3C. Also stamped on back of block is E1124041. Also back of block has casting # 1980 X
Any help you can give in identifying year of motor and type of flywheel i need. thanks in advance

engine should be this EOAE-D3C – 1980-1984, 302 Windsor small-block, 2-bolt mains

That ID's the block, you need to get the crank ID to know which imbalance you're dealing with.

this may help your needs in explaining what walt is saying.

Scroll down and there is a picture and write up of the different cranks.

"Here are two small-block Ford nodular iron crank-shafts. On the left is a “2ME” crank for the 5.0L engine with a one-piece rear main seal. Notice the absence of a seal lip. The 302 “2M” crank on the right has a seal lip for the two-piece rear main seal, which was common prior to December 1982. Also remember that there is a 28-ounce offset balance prior to 1982 and a 50-ounce offset from 1982-up. "

I have an E0 motor from a pickup torn apart in the shed. It's a 2-piece rear seal but also a 50oz offset. When you see the later 50oz or "lightweight" crankshafts you can spot them from a mile away. They look totally different than an old crankshaft.

Robert,

To be 100% positive of what you need, as walt said above, take off the oil pan and on the counter weights look for a stamped in number. this will tell you what crank is in the engine and will let you know exactly what balance you will be needing.

And by taking off the pan you can inspect the oil for any metal chunks, clean the bottom of the pan to be ready for fresh oil, and you also get the mind set of having new oilpan gaskets.
