Hi, after swap 2 engine due to over heating from junk yard . Both shaking in idle and misfire, while there is no misfire. Spending 1 year to do all electrical test, smoke for leaking air, change catalyst and ... for my 2004 ford ranger 4.0 stick shift 4*4 , only 92k on car. Finally decided to rebuild my original engine. Heads and block are out of machine shops, purchased all timing chain and gasket kit, now my mechanic couldn’t time the engine. I’m in search for some pro mechanic to assemble it for me. I can bring the engine anywhere around LA, no need to put it under the hood. Just assembled and timed. Any offer with fair price!! Already paid a lottttt!!!! Thanks

Hey I'm in LA too! Theres tons of machine shops around me, but I couldn't tell ya which ones are any good (been so long since I needed machine work). But if I were in your shoes, I would call reputable off road shops or custom shops and ask who they send their customer trucks engines to. I think Desolate motorsports or SMP fabrication could point you the right direction.

Just the right size to touch the ground.
I have the timing tools and the know how, but I live in a different LA (Lower Alabama). Otherwise known as the Florida Panhandle.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

I think g8orford is too far away to do it for him.

Yeah, what ^he^ said. It was kinda a joke. People around here refer to our area as "LA" for Lower Alabama because most people don't think of our area when they think of Florida. There was actually a map made once where the panhandle was left off.

I don't have anyone I could recommend and I'm in nor-cal. I've rebuilt the 4.0 SOHC motor. It's a complicated motor to put back together. A timing installation kit should really be purchased or used. Some have done it with combinations of sockets and allen wrenches. There are TTY bolts needed for the heads, and jackshaft. I recommend changing the oil pump and water pump as well.
I'm actually looking for expert advice on my rebuild that I will post on a separate thread.
