Agh...finally it all makes sense. So a Dana 60 is wider than a 44. Now I'm jealous. I want that wide stance. So me and ford 78 are both using d44s. So I'm not losing my mind haha. Couldnt figure out why some people had their springs outboard so far.

Ford78, are you using the original springs from the d44 or did you go with a different length?

the Dana 60/44 are pretty close the same width it just where the spring perch is located. The 79 and and earlyer are 31.5 and the 86 and up dana 60 are 36.5.
I used the rancho 44044 3in leaf springs for a wagerner.

aweswome. now i wont feel the need to upgrade to a d60 haha. my d44 was free as well as my d60 for the rear.

one more question about your set up. curious as to how you flipped the ubolts. in the pic, you can see that the ubolt goes through the pumpkin webbing. is it as simple as flipping it with round ubolts and a spring plate? or will it interfere with the pumpkin?

i appreciate all the help and sorry for the endless questions. but you have been the most help so far. everyone elses answer is "switch to an eb axle and go coils"

I did flip the ubolts. I used a plate from ruffstuff and i had to notch the web on the pumpkin so the u-bolt could be fliped. If u got the axle for free i would use it and doing it ether way is not cheap so if u can save by not having to buy another axle do it. Dont worry about the questions , i just hope it helps.

oh its definitely helpful. i think i have about 80% of it all figured out. my last issue is steering.
i dont have high steer setup nor do i ever plan on dumbing that much money into it unless i upgrade to d60 in the far far future.

how are you setting up your steering? leafs get in the way

ive seen someone use chevy 1 tons and put their leafs on blocks to get it high enough for the drag link to clear. not very safe. was gonna go heims but everyone constantly tells me how its not good for a daily driver.

ive seen another person weld a vertical arm to the tie rod and have the drag arm mount to that arm above the leaf.

any thoughts on what direction i should go with.

once again, everytime i asked this question, everyone tries to sell me on a $1300 hydraulic ram setup.

Since u have a 79 dana 44 u can have the pass. side knuckle drill and taped for a high steer arm. That what i have done. sent mine to sky manufacturing and used their highsteer arm. I also used ruffstuff 7/8 heim steering kit.
Not any more update, drill bits to dull to drill threw my plate for my steering box mount so i had to pick upsome more bits today.

So you went with heims even though everyone says it wears out extremely fast and gives very loose steering on the road? I think that's the route I'm leaning toward. It's hard finding someone in my town who can ream out my knuckles and pitman arm. At least I can drill it out on my own for heims. Throw up some pics when you get some progress done

That looks great man. Amazing rig. My favorite one so far. Did you go with 3/4" bolts for the steering or something smaller. Wasn't sure if there is enough metal to hold a 3/4" bolt and still be strong

Thanks for the comments, I did go with 3/4"Bolt. Their seems to be plenty of material left to be strong enough.
