I,m a complete noob when it comes to this site. I wanted to spread the word on something potentially expensive.
2010 Ranger 4L 5 speed manual come a stop in neutral. Trans refuses to go into any gear. Have to shut off engine then trans goes into any gear like a hot knife in butter. Failure occurs completely at random. Days could go by without occurance. There were no other symptoms. Everything okay. Clutch, slave cylinder oil level, throwout bearing etc. I was about ready to have the trans pulled when I thought maybe I should change the trans fluid again. I had previously refilled the trans with mercon 2 that was in my garage forever. Went to Ford and got some mercon 5. Problem is gone for weeks. I recently gave this 74000 km Ranger to my son who lives in Edmonton. He drove it from Ontario to Alberta with no issues. I have since read that in matters which ATF you use in your trans. Who would have thunk it? I don't care what you do with this information as I may never be back here. My Ranger served me well.
