My new sliders

I've been wanting to do sliders like these on my Ranger for 4 years or more, but my girlfriends truck seemed like a good candidate.
I started by cutting the rocker out, and a piece of 2x4 1/8 wall box went in its place.
The tube is 1 1/2x.120.
I'm pretty sure using the tubes to go back to the floor brace will be plenty strong. Anything is stronger than a single layer of sheet metal.

The rockers were already beat a little, but not too bad

Inside of the layers in the extended cab area.

There is a 1" or so gap once the rocker is cut away.

Just the box in place (the fender is pulled away at the bottom).

The center tube goes from the brace tithe outer tube. The front and rear stop at the outside edge of the box.

These really make the dent in the door stand out...

A little bit of filler just to tone down the weld between the rocker and box

And a coat of Duplicolor bed liner, and here it is

They still need 2 45 degree bars forward and back of center, but I needed to get it painted and out of the garage.

The passengers side should be done tomorrow, and I'll post pics of that.
On this truck, their main purpose is steps, but the truck does get wheeled lightly.
Once I get more time, my Ranger is next. Mine will go all the way to the rear tire, since it sees a lot more trail use than hers.

Why angle them down? Seems kind of counter productive...

On her truck, they are mainly for steps, but it sees a few trails (both rockers have been hit already)
In reality, they don't stick down much/ any further than sliders under the rockers, mounted to the frame.
I just can't justify putting "chrome" tube steps on a wheeler.

Mine probably won't point down on my Ranger.
