Most likely it's the ignition module.

what does it do when it wont start? Does it make any noise at all? My truck used to do this. It was random though, not when it was hot. It would make a single loud click noise, and that was it. If i jumped the relay it would start, so i replaced the relay a few times. It ended up being the starter in the end. I think the power wire had a loose connection. Check all your connections before you go buying new parts.

Try this!

I had the same problem. Try doing a tune-up. It helped me. I cleaned out the fuel injection, throttle body, cleaned the intake sensors, and changed the PCV Valve. The PCV valve is under $3.00 at canadian tire. If you have to change the module, try going straight to the mazda dealer, it can cost you less than buying aftermarket parts, plus after market parts are junk. However, anything you buy at the ford dealer ,will in most cases, be a rip.

My credo
Don't vote Democrat.
Sounds a lot like either a fuel pressure problem (leaking FPR) or a failing fuel pump relay.
