My brother just got a good looking 2nd gen ranger with a 2.9. It's a good daily driver says the guy he bought it from. What mods would be great for a 4wd? Let me know much is appreciated.

I know PJ should be the first one lol

I would recommend going over the truck with a fine tooth comb before thinking about upgrades and mods. Some of the found issues may allow for mods and upgrade as items of opportunity while doing so.

I poop in the furnace.
Lower gears, lockers, lift, and tires will do more than messing with anything on the engine. :icon_thumby:

Deengineer until it is how Blue Oval should have sold it!!

If the vehicle is in sound condition and the engine has been verified to work well...

I would consider all options regarding better and increased cooling to keep it that way:

-oil cooler
-extra tranny cooler if an automatic
-dual core radiator

If you want to see higher fuel economy, Lose the crank case driven fan and install a suitable electric fan. These little V6's get robbed pretty bad by the crank fan/clutch system. Doing this to my 2.9L caused the highest increase in fuel economy over any than other single change.

Ultimately your brother's intended use for the truck will dictate what to consider changing ..)
